For guests staying at Rasa Sayang, we’ll be arranging group transport to and from Lao Tia Meh, the main wedding day events, and the Monday tour.
We’ll share exact pickup times and details closer to the date — check back here or keep an eye on your inbox.
Grab (the local ride-hailing app) is the easiest and most reliable way to get around. There are also bike and trishaw rentals in certain parts of the island if you’re in the mood for something a little different.
We recommend having some cash on hand, especially for smaller purchases at hawker stalls, as well as setting up GrabPay (a mobile wallet).
While many hawker stalls and local shops now accept GrabPay and Touch ’n Go (mobile wallets commonly used in Malaysia), Apple Pay and international cards are still less widely accepted.
It’s unlikely you’ll have international roaming for Malaysia on your local carrier. We’ve regularly used Airalo for eSIMs, and you can get one either specific to Malaysia or one for the whole of Asia if you’re travelling further afield. Use referral code JOSH9177
(ofc) for a little discount (hopefully).
For Lao Tia Meh (留厅夜) on Saturday evening, come as you are — casual and comfortable is perfect. It’s an informal gathering and you’re welcome to wear whatever you feel relaxed in.
For the tea ceremony and gatecrashing games on Sunday morning, feel free to dress casually too. If you’d like, clothing in red, purple, or gold — or even just a touch of those colours — is considered auspicious! We’d suggest avoiding all-black or all-white outfits, which are typically reserved for somber occasions.
For the wedding banquet on Sunday evening, we’d love to see you in something a little dressy — think semi-formal, festive, and fun. No need for black tie.
If you’re joining the Monday tour, go for light, breathable clothing, comfortable walking shoes, and maybe a hat or umbrella — we’ll be out and about exploring the island!
